Weeping fig, Ficus tree

  • Common name: Weeping fig, Ficus tree
    Botanical name: Ficus benjamina

  • Family: Moraceae (fig family)

  • Recommended uses: One of the most popular small indoor trees; grows quite slowly.

  • Size: Up-to 10 ft.

  • Life span: Can live for about 20 years with good care

  • Common name: Fiddle-leaf fig, Banjo fig
    Botanical name: Ficus Lyrata

  • Family: Moracaeae (fig family)

  • Recommended uses: Popular ornamental tree; also known as a houseplant in temperate areas
    Form: Tree

  • Size: 18 in. long and 12 in. broad; the fruit is a green fig 2.5-3 cm.

  • Life span: In the wild it can live more than 50years;  as an indoor plant, it lives 10-20 years

  • Foliage color: Deep green

    Botanical name: Dracaena fragrans

  • Family: Asparagaceae

  • Recommended uses:
    Form: 2-3 years

  • Size: Height of 12-15 ft.

  • Life span: 15-20 years

  • Foliage Color: Leaves are glossy-green; the flowers are produced in panicles, with a six-lobed corolla, pink at first, opening white with a fine red or purple central line on each of the lobes; they are highly fragrant, and popular with pollinating insects. The fruit is an orange-red berry, containing several seeds.

Aloe

  • Common name: Aloe vera
    Botanical name: Aloe barbadensis miller

  • Family: Asphodelaceae (Liliaceae)

  • Recommended uses: Grows great in a pot, or can be used out in the garden. Aloes grow in poor soil with good drainage. Growing conditions vary in their native habitat.
    Form: Herb, Houseplant

  • Size: Between 1'-2' tall. Can grow up to 3' in the right conditions.

  • Life span: Matures when it is about 4 years old and has a life span of about 12 years.

  • Foliage Color: Blue/green, gray/silver
